The Juanita Beach Park swimming area in Kirkland is closed for at least a week due to elevated bacteria levels.

The city of Kirkland said Thursday that king County officials tested the water recently and found bacteria levels to be unsafe. People and pets should stay out of the water, the city said.

The rest of the park area is still open, the city said, adding that lifeguards will be onsite over the next week to let people know about the closure.
